If you're an avid traveler like us or someone who prefers to get the biggest bang out of your credit card then you probably have access to an airport lounge. If you often travel through Phoenix International then you will want to continue reading this sad news. Personally, we use the Chase Sapphire Reserve to get lounge access via the Priority Pass membership on the majority of our trips. It was especially useful the one time we had a 12 hour layover in Peru. Unfortunately, for those Phoenix airport travelers that use Priority Pass our time is limited to enjoy The Club at PHX in Terminal 4. To our surprise, we found on the Priority Pass website that effect April 19, 2019 it will no longer be apart of the program. It feels like not that long ago Priority Pass extended the hours by rotating the 2 neighboring clubs which allowed travelers to enjoy The Club even more. We've reached out to Priority Pass for comment as to why this location will no longer be offered.
We fear this could be part of a growing trend. I've continued to read elsewhere on the complaints of crowded lounges as more and more people sign up for credit cards with these perks. We've experienced wait times at several lounges before due to this very fact. In the last year alone, Chase has decreased the number of guests that can get in for free. Previously if you were going to a lounge you could often bring an unlimited amount of guests for free with you, this could mean entire soccer teams! Chase and Priority Pass realized the impacts this was having and rolled back the guest limit. For us only being 2 travelers and experiencing large groups we have actually been a fan of the change. I assume we will continue to see more creative ways to curb the traffic in these lounges as people continue to travel.
Now that the Club at PHX is coming to a sad end we may have to start exploring other credit cards to see if the value of the perks and other lounge access is better. We admit the domestic lounge lineup hasn't always been the greatest for Priority Pass but the international lounges are fantastic. The pass alone still has covered the cost of our annual fee multiple times over.
